CONUA to sue FG over withheld salaries
The Congress of university academics (CONUA) show their dissatisfaction to federal government regarding their failure to pay withheld salaries despite the fact that they government knew they did not declare or join asuu strike.
CONUA was formed on 4th October 2022 by the minister of labour and employment senator Chris ngegi following the failure of federal government and the academic staff union of universities (ASUU) to reach agreement to suspend it 8months strike.
According to a statement issued by CONUA on tuesday signed by National president, secretary and publicity secretary Drs niyi sunmonu, henry oripeloye and Ernest nwoke,it was not proper for federal government to associate CONUA with ASUU who went on 8months strike between February to October 2022.
As a result of that the newly established union planned to sue federal government for failing to pay the salaries of it lecturers under their union,in a letter sent to federal government on April 2022 CONUA formally alerted the federal government of it non participation in the strike.
But CONUA were shocked when federal government started paying universities salaries they hope they will pay them their withheld salaries but they were also paid on pro-rata. in a letter sent to minister of labour and employment and accountant general of the federal,it is improper to group us together with those that called and begun strike,it is more surprising that our November salary were not pay and the unpaid backlog of salaries.
